Sacramento authorities are investigating a shooting incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in Sacramento just as authorities were shutting down an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.
Background
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 Saturday evening after getting calls of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Shortly after, additional information came in concerning a possible physical fight taking place within the park grounds.
A sheriff's airship searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding the assembled crowd to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were given for people to comply.
As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots were discharged. The shots triggered a stampede. Law enforcement swiftly started locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
In total, four individuals were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — including a female and three males all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and provided medical assistance those who had been shot at the park.
Crime Scene Evidence
The main crime scene appears to have been concentrated along Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel discovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were also found in the wrought iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. This ballistic evidence indicated that at least one shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area targeting the Howe Park Sacramento gunfire Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was put under lockdown while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene through the early morning hours.
Arrests Made
Reports confirmed via scanner audio revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in the Solano County area. Four suspects were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene revealed that two individuals had fired weapons.
